Kaiser Permanente presented the Lemon Grove HEAL Zone with a check at the kick off event for phase II of the initiative on July 15th.
The Lemon Grove HEAL Zone initiative began in 2012, when Kaiser awarded Community Health Improvement Partners an initial $1 million grant to get the group going.
The current grant for another $1 million is to cover the next three years of work by the Lemon Grove HEAL Zone. The project has brought together residents, businesses, the city, the Lemon Grove School District, San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative and healthcare providers, including Community Health Improvement Partners, to make healthy living a priority in the city.
HEAL Zones are designed to help make healthy choices accessible to more people in underserved communities and in turn to prevent diseases such as diabetes and hypertension that often result from obesity.
Thank you to Kaiser Permanente Thrive for their continued support!
