The UN Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that 800 million people grow food in and around cities. That’s roughly 20% of the world’s urban population farming in one form or another. Urban agriculture is common in many developing countries where people spend a far higher share of their income on buying food, but the practice is also becoming more popular globally.
